ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

Be a part of the exciting 35th Annual Miami Physicians
Fishing Tournament, June 20th-22nd, 2024 at the beautiful and exclusive
Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida. You will have a fun weekend with
a variety of activities for the entire family all while benefiting a great cause. The tournament has selected Break Through Miami as the sole beneficiary. ABOUTBREAK THROUGH MIAMI

Breakthrough Miami uses a unique “students-teaching-students” model to create a rigorous, vibrant learning community, where highly motivated, traditionally underrepresented 5th-12th grade students are supported to achieve post-secondary success and emerging leaders are inspired to become the next generation of educators and advocates.

Breakthrough Miami currently serves 1,300 middle and high school students at seven community campus locations (Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, Gulliver Prep, Miami Country Day School, Palmer Trinity School, Ransom Everglades School, Saint Andrew’s School and the University of Miami). Acceptance into the program is based on a competitive application and interview process, in which we identify students who are academically motivated and meet at least two of the following five risk factors associated with failure to enter/complete college:

Ethnic/racial minorities (96% of our students)
Family income qualifies for free/reduced lunch (85%)
First generation in their families to attend college in the U.S. (48%)
Single-parent household (47%)
Primary language other than English (50%)

Breakthrough Miami opens doors of opportunity for our Scholars through evidence-based programming that positions students for success in college, beginning in the 5th grade.

Since 1991, Breakthrough Miami has supported nearly 4,000 Scholars to maximize their potential, providing unparalleled service leadership experiences to 2,500 Teaching Fellows and 5,000 Volunteers. Grounded by a vision for educational equity and a unique position as a bridge-builder across diverse communities, Breakthrough has grown exponentially in reach, impact, and recognition as South Florida’s Opportunity Generator.

Honored as 2023 Program of the Year by The Children’s Trust, recognizing excellence in youth development, and 2023 Program of the Year by Volunteer Florida in honor of outstanding excellence as an AmeriCorps program, Breakthrough Miami impacts more than 2,000 youth annually across 150 zip codes and 320 schools.
